.6 miles from the Courthouse. The reason why Lawrenceville is fast becoming a go-to dining destination becomes abundantly clear when you step inside Local Republic. The vibe in here is very intown and the gastro-pub menu is simple but yet creative enough to draw fans from just about anywhere. It is a gastro-pub so you’ll first be tempted with a diverse beer menu that will have you wishing that afternoon court gets cancelled. The most adventurous dishes here are the small plates where you’ll find pan-fried chicken livers with tomato jam, lamb belly, mussels, as well as an interesting take on buffalo wings featuring salt and pepper quail with hot sauce and blue cheese. Though you can just have a salad and be perfectly fine, you may want to venture down to the burgers where you’ll find The Southpaw, a cajun-spiced grass fed beef patty smothered in blue cheese and bacon as well as the Patrick Swayze which features a ghost pepper salsa that is apparently spicy and will not be served on the side. Vegetarians, have no fear, the house-made black bean burger is not only tremendous but is one heck of a sandwich. Pair any burger or sammy with a choice of some incredible sides like bacon mac n’ cheese, goat cheese and sage mashed potatoes, pimento cheese grits or the pea du jour (that’s right). If you wanna go fancy, you’ll be more than accommodated with the local pork cheek and tamale, the ginger fennel and coriander crusted chicken with pear chutney or the teriyaki duck breast served alongside a coconut rice cake. Oh, did I mention there’s also some ridiculously good “fancy” takes on the cheese steak, Cuban sandwich, and gyro (well actually, it’s lamb meatballs topped with goat cheese, cuke and tzatziki). Come with some time to spare but it’s certainly quick enough here to get you back to court within the hour.
